Biography

Dr. Hui graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1985. He then trained in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine in Sydney, Australia.

Dr. Hui visited Vietnam in Feb 2004 as a WHO delegate to review clinical management of human H5N1 influenza. In Dec 2005, he visited Hunan and AnHui in China to review treatment of human cases at the invitation by the Chinese Ministry of Health. In Mar 19-21 2007, he attended the “Second WHO Consultation on Clinical Aspects of human infection with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus” in Turkey as a WHO advisor and contributed to the WHO clinical treatment guidelines. He was a temporary advisor to the WHO/ Thailand on clinical management of pandemic Influenza A/H1N1 cases from 17-19 Aug 2009.

Dr. Hui has published over 150 peer-reviewed journal articles and 15 book chapters since joining the CUHK in 1998. 

Research Interests

Clinical management of emerging respiratory infections, the safety of respiratory therapy in the post SARS era, the efficacy of the medical ward airflow in preventing nosocomial infections, sleep disordered breathing and common airway diseases.
