Initial Phase An organisation framework was put in place to guide the development of programmes of the CEID. It was a three-level structure comprising an Advisory Board, a Steering and Management Committee, and an Executive Board. |

Steering and Management Committee The Steering and Management Committee provided directions and strategies. The Committee was chaired by the Dean of the Medical Faculty, CUHK. Other members of the Committee included Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC), Associate Dean (General Affairs), Associate Dean (Research), Director of CEID, Deputy Director of CEID, Director of SPH, Planning Officer, Representatives from Hospital Authority (HA) and Representatives from Center for Health Protection (CHP) Hong Kong. The Committee met 3 times on 8 January 2004, 14 April 2004 and 21 December 2004. |

Advisory Board Local and overseas experts have been invited on their personal capacity as well as representing local and international organizations to join the Advisory Board. Besides advising on the directions and management of CEID, the Board also facilitated collaborations between CEID and other organizations in the field of infectious diseases. The Advisory Board had held its meeting on 17 January 2004. |

Executive Board The executive arm of CEID was managed by the Executive Board. The Board was constituted by the CEID director, two Deputy Directors appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Programme coordinators, Director of Master of Public Health Programme (MPH), Director of Postgraduate Programmes in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (EPB) and other local experts invited to join on their personal capacity. |

| CEID had defined three main sets of programmes - Training and Education, Research, Preparedness for infectious diseases. The programmes were cross-cutting and characterized by their inter-disciplinary nature. Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between CEID and The Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health, The University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, The Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, The British Columbia Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. The Executive Board met 5 times on 17 September 2003, 2 October 2003, 6 November 2003, 8 January 2004 and 22 November 2004. | ![]() |
Three subcommittees were formed under the Executive Board to pursue research, training/education, and preparedness for infection. |
